PRESS RELEASE

MITSUBISHI OFFERS PLC THAT CUTS PANEL SPACE /ASSEMBLY TIME AND OUTPERFORMS MANY PLC IN ITS CLASS

Chicago, IL. - March 15th, 1999 - At National Manufacturing Week, Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc. previewed the new FX2NC line of super compact controllers, designed to reduce costs and time to complete construction of control panels. They also displayed two complementary Windows-based programming software packages called FX-WIN and GPP-WIN.

Conventional panels require several layers of wiring, termination, and labeling. The FX2NC uses high-density cables that connect the PLC directly to the field terminals by locking IDC connectors. Panel size can be decreased, and construction time/effort associated with wiring, terminating, and labeling are greatly reduced, allowing faster and more cost-effective panel construction.

Highlight of the new product line include:

Effective - Reduces termination "layers" up to 60%
Easy - Programs from Windows in Ladder (Relay Ladder Logic), List (Instructional text) , and Function Chart languages
Connected - Integrates with CC Link, Profibus, AS-i and other popular networks
Flexible - Wires in groups of 8/16 circuits or with custom-designed harnesses
Common - Uses industry standard third party terminal products
Capable - Handles applications up to 256 I/O
Powerful - Including process control and motion control capabilities
Compact - 16 and 32 I/O CPUs are about the size of a single cigarette pack

Small or medium sized machine builders will gain competitive advantage with the benefits provided in FX2NC. Mitsubishi targets OEMs in packaging, material handling, automotive, and electronics manufacturing markets, as having excellent potential to increase productivity and decrease cost through use of FX2NC SuperMicroTM Controllers.

The FX2NC provides exceptional compatibility, regarding software, operator stations, performance, options, software, and connectivity, with all other Mitsubishi SuperMicro products. Key specifications include 32K byte program memory, 16K data memory, 80 nanosecond execution, embedded twin axis motion control, floating point math, and auto-tuning PID control.

MEAU scheduled full release of the FX2NC is for January 2000, limited quantities are already available.

Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc., located in Vernon Hills, IL., offers a comprehensive line of World-class automation controls, including programmable logic controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), PC-based controls, Servo amplifiers and motors, Motion controllers, AC variable frequency drives (VFD), Computer Numerical Controls (CNC), Linear servos, Robots, and Uninterruptible Power Supplies systems (UPS), for a broad range of industrial automation applications.
