NEW MINIATURE BUS STATION DELIVERS FIELDBUS NETWORKING EFFICIENCY TO SMALL APPLICATIONS.
Minneapolis, MN-August 7, 2000-InterlinkBT T" has announced piconet-a miniaturized bus station developed for smaller applications. utilizing the latest electronic technology, piconet delivers fieldbus networking efficiency to applications where it was previously impossible to implement. piconet is an ideal networking solution for small, high-tech production lines and other space-limited applications.

Piconet offers the same features, performance and durability as bus stations up to four times its size. The compact fieldbus module, measuring just 175 mm (7.0") long, x 30 mm (1.2") wide, x 27 mm (1. 1") high, detects and processes discrete and analog signals with functionality equal to that of the cumbersome stations used to network massive manufacturing lines.
Especially significant, the modular and open design of the new fieldbus provides unprecedented flexibility. piconet modules support all major open fieldbus protocols, including DeviceNet, PROFIBUS-DP and CANOpen, and can be mixed to customize networks for any configuration of
I/0 signals. Modules are terminated with picofast connectors to provide plug-and-play convenience, enabling users to create, re-use and reconfigure systems quickly as production requirements change.
The new fieldbus is cost-effective due to high granularity, and features rugged, watertight construction that eliminates the need for additional enclosures. Field-wireable connectors are available for applications where on the spot wiring is required.
A piconet network of up to 256 connected modules provides a high-speed transmission rate of 1.5 Mbytes per second (1 000 1/0 in approx. 1 ms). Noise-immune fiber optics are use- -d to connect interface modules with compact extension modules measuring only 126 mm (5.0") long, x 30 mm (1.2") wide, x 27 mm (1.1 ") high.
piconet is a rugged, stand-alone module that connects the machine controller to the field devices and indicates the operating status of the bus network, module, inputs, and outputs.
Piconet modules are rated I P67 and are full-potted for watertight performance that withstands most industrial environments.
